Does Anyone Want a Free Yellow Lab that goes by the Name of Charles and Has the Potential to be Well Behaved?!

Okay so I am not really giving him away...but today I am totally tempted!!

He was being fairly good this morning and since the weatherman promised it was going to be a day that resembled summer (still waiting on that day to show up!)....I decided to take the pup for a walk...I know, I know...that statement never ends well!
I will first say that he had been doing very well on his walks since the Hubs has gotten back! Well not today!
We start out on our walk and we head straight for his first marking spot..fire hydrant #1 (there are about 6 or 7 along our walk). That's when I spot them....a father, young son and female dog...oh no! Please charlie, can you go blind for a few minutes as to not see them I plead! Even worse it was a female dog that Charles has made "friends" with in the past...I so NEED to get him fixed!!
Well lets just say he didn't go blind and as soon as he spotted the female dog...he ran..oh no! so basically there was me caught behind the running Charles trying to make him stop and telling him to sit (yeah like that would work)! The dad was very nice and the female dog let Charles sniff her for a few minutes with my feeble attempts to control him. We finally were able to part with them and I decided to change our route since they were heading the same direction we were! We headed the opposite direction and on to the little walking path in our neighborhood. However, the Charles had decided to continue to sniff everything along the way and pull as hard as he could (maybe it was his raging hormones or something)!
That's when I saw him...squat position ready....oh no...he is going to poop! luckily I get him on the grass and smart thinking me had brought along a poop bag. He does his buizness and I pick it up..but the nearest trash can is by a house with someone mowing their lawn and a yard full of kids...I have already learned my lesson for the day...so we turn around a head the opposite direction. I usually have to use both hands to control him but since I still had the bag of poo I had to make due with one hand on the leash...not fun! He was still pulling like crazy!
We finally made it to the trash..me very frustrated and Him all happy..stupid dog! I was trying to be a good mom and get him fully walked out so we continued on. We had only walked about another minute and I had enough!
Let's just say the walk ended early and if someone had driven by right then and asked me to donate a dog...well it's a good thing dog donations were not present in our neighborhood today!!

What are your crazy dog stories??? any advise for me???

Have a great Thursday (it's thrusday right?)!

  1. I just gave my dog away 2 weeks ago! She jumped through my screen door and chewed up the blinds and peed everywhere while I was grocery shopping!

  2. LOL! That is so funny! I have a very similar story, we had a boxer a few years ago (I miss him dearly) we had to give him to someone else when we moved. Anyways-he wasn't fixed either so I took him out for a walk one day and we walked past a woman and her much smaller female dog...well, my 75 pound Boxer beast latched onto her liket here was no tomorrow and the whole time the lady is screaming "get your dog off her...get him off now!" and I couldn't pull him off b/c he was so heavy!!! Finally I was able to just lay on top of him and pull him off...but it was so embarrassing and that lady was so mad...I couldn't control him so I'm sorry lady! :(

  3. I have had labs and retrievers my whole life. I have a lab-Great Dane mix now. How old is Charley?

I promise, they become so SO much better after the age of 3 (Vets will tell you 2...but seriously, it's 3.) All that frantic, disobedient behavior calms way the heck down.

They are still "people" dogs, so they totally keep some of the exuberance, but they're better.

Also, for easier walking, totally get the a) Gentle Leader leash, or the harness. I couldn't control my dog before we got him the harness. Now, he steps in it on his own and goes. SO much better. You can almost run with all 90 pounds of him!

  7. Oh that's so funny!!! We have an unusually large Golden Retriever ~ Baxley. I can not walk him by myself because he seriously pulls me flat on my face when he takes off running. That is until we bought a Halti!!! They are a miracle in itself. The second we put it on him I was able to walk him. Now I enjoy taking him when we head out for a foot trek to the Farmers Market or a run. You have to try one out for yourself to see but I promise you'll love it!!! http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=875

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!!! Yours is absolutely adorable and can't wait to see what you have in store for me as a new reader!!!

    XOXO

  12. Ugh, I dread DREAD walking out dogs. The husky is fine now, she is actually really good but she definitely can never go off leash. BUT the puppy is a freaking spaz and pulls, barks...it's pretty much a nightmare. Nothing has seemed to work yet.
